About Johnny Vy Photography

One of my fondest memories as a kid was running around the kitchen with my cousins during the reception of my uncle's wedding 2,000 miles away from home.  The entire venue was our playpen, and we chased each other around our moms and aunts as they prepared the dinner.  I vividly remember the wonderful aroma of the food, the large gathering of people posing together for pictures, and the way my mom laughed at how my suit's sleeves were too long and how my clip-on bow tie was always crooked.  There was a different kind of excitement in the air when family came together, and to this day, it is these memories that I will always associate with going to a wedding.  Marriage is not only about love between two people, but also about the union of families.  People come together from different walks of life to celebrate unity, and it is the essence of that familial connection that makes me feel right at home at weddings.  I look for all the small details that make each moment special, and believe in having a genuine connection with all of my clients - striving to establish a strong relationship from the very first meeting. After all, a bride will spend 90% of her wedding day with her photographer, and I’ve learned that all successful relationships are founded on strong communication, commitment, and trust.  Weddings are like exclusive celebrations with only the closest of friends and family invited.  Ultimately, it is having that trust that allows me to be among family, and allows me to reveal the true beauty and emotions that you will actually feel on your wedding day.  It would be a tremendous honor to be one of your special invited guests.

I studied Visual Arts and Communication at the University of California, San Diego, where I was a photojournalist for the UCSD Guardian newspaper and a public relations photographer for the world famous Hotel Del Coronado.  Upon completion of my degrees, my keen eye for capturing moments landed me a contract photography and editing position for the National Basketball Association, where I currently balance my time when I’m not photographing weddings.  In addition, I am also a photo editor for the National Football League, and I currently assist some of the most accomplished names in the sports photography industry, including staff photographers for the Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and Angels, as well as staff photographers from Sports Illustrated.  I reside in San Gabriel and enjoy watching sports, playing guitar, and riding my bike in my spare time.
